A fantastic opportunity has become available for a GP to join our team at Merrow Park Surgery, located just outside Guildford, on a maternity cover basis starting April 2025!
Days: 4 Sessions a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Join our thriving team, as we seek to further develop high quality, accessible & holistic healthcare for our patient population as well as providing a supportive & learning work environment for the health & wellbeing of all of our staff.
- A salaried GP role affords a significant opportunity for Quality Improvement or Medical Leadership and developing your own clinical interests.
- Our vision for the practice, our staff and patients, is only achievable and sustainable, if clinicians have reasonable workloads, supported by excellent organisation and teamwork, which if necessary challenge secondary care models or patient expectations of GP service delivery.
- Our clinical team meet daily informally over lunch, and more formally in weekly extended lunchtime Monday meeting. Meeting notes are available for colleagues not present
- BMA model contract including 30 days holiday/2 NHS days pro rata

We have:
- Purpose built & partner-owned, single premises with good staff parking and nearby amenities.
- List size of 11,800, in a low deprivation area
- Personal lists and equalisation of workload
- A dynamic partnership of three, particularly involved with Primary Care Network, LMC Liaison, Clinical Supervision, Quality Improvement and Lifestyle medicine, as well as a shared focus on staff wellbeing
- Encouraged/instilled a no-blame/learning culture raising Learning Events where workflow & process issues are identified before developing into Significant Events
- Specialist clinics offered: these have developed out of individual GP clinical interests
- Dedicated organised administration team with a vision to decrease GP administrative work to allow focus on clinical decision-making.
- FCP’s (First Contact Physio) who are first point of contact for MSK issues, instead of GP’s
- Recruitment of Health & Wellbeing Coach furthering our vision towards patient empowerment
- We’re proud to offer a range of innovative services to support our patients and enhance the care we provide, including:
o GPiMHS Mental Health Support and Adult Social Prescribers, as well as our exciting new Young
People’s Social Prescribing (East to West) initiative, which empowers young patients with access
to supportive resources, safe spaces to talk, and engaging activities that promote well-being and
community connections.
o A Youth Worker Pilot Program, currently in its early stages, designed to place a dedicated youth
worker at our surgery. This initiative aims to provide additional support to young patients who
may benefit from tailored, hands-on assistance.
o Onsite Chaplaincy Service: Offering holistic care and a compassionate listening ear for patients
who need a safe, supportive space to share their thoughts and feelings
- Prescribing Pharmacist and Pharmacy technician support remotely through ARRS PCN bid
- The practice has no nursing home patients
- Protected, daily coffee meeting for the whole clinical team
- Extended Monday clinical meeting for clinician’s CPD, shared learning +/- outside consultant speakers
Within the whole of our clinical team we have interests and specialisms in:
Community Dermatology, Women’s Health & Contraception, Diabetes, DESMOND course tutor, Group
Consultation & Low Carbohydrate Diet support towards Diabetes remission, GPiMHS, Frailty initiatives
pioneered at this surgery are now shared amongst the PCN. Learning Disability Virtual wards, GP Fellowship in
Stroke Prevention & Quality improvement, GP trainers for FY2 doctors, GP tutor Final Year SGUL med students,
Veterans & Cancer lead. Domestic Violence, Sepsis & Homelessness
Ongoing Quality Improvement programme geared towards working smarter, not harder.
- We operate a usual doctor (personal list) system encouraging continuity of care, as this develops rapport with our patients & is more rewarding from a GP personal perspective
- workflow optimisation of incoming clinical correspondence
- Established Total triage system with Digital access via AccuRx
- Good use of EMIS web with AccuRx & personalised templates
- GP model of 15 minute urgent F2F slots
- Most GPs work from home 1xday/week, to accommodate special interests & work-life balance
o Home broadband is necessary
o Work laptop is provided
o This includes facility for recorded calls via cloud-based remote telephony
- Ongoing education-weekly CPD meeting, regular undergraduate Assistantships & Training practice
- An active induction programme and supportive appraisal
- Monthly CPD meeting with Palliative care and Community Teams
- A focus on Staff Wellbeing with Standing Desks and an outside seating bench donated by a patient, and lovingly refurbished by another
- Full engagement with East Guildford PCN
- Dr Larisa Han is the chair of Surrey LMC
- The team is particularly supportive and works well together
- Opportunity for extended OOH work in addition to the contracted hours at the surgery.
Recent staff initiatives
- Staff logo design: the winning entry to be adopted on our letterhead, was submitted as encompassing our vision for learning and inclusivity.
- Our PST (Patient Services Team) represent the role previously referred to as receptionists. This reflects the important and diverse role they have in patient signposting and triage

Feedback from members of our current clinical team, who have joined us soon after qualification in their
respective roles, is that the program of inclusion, an open-door policy with the partners and regular formal and
informal education meetings has been helpful in providing stability during induction and instructive in settling
to the responsibility of 21st Century Primary care.
