Absorbable Suture Claim Arrangements
To all practices Surrey and Sussex LMCs
Dear Colleagues,
Changes in Absorbable Suture Claim Arrangements
I am writing to all colleagues to highlight this advisory letter from Dr Soon Lim, Education Lead of the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care.
This will be relevant to all colleagues undertaking Minor Surgery when claiming for the absorbable sutures used.
Unfortunately, there is no grace period in which previous sutures can be claimed; the ASPC is investigating this point further with the NHS Business Service Authority (NHSBSA) and it is also unclear why these changes have been made, as all such sutures are made by Ethicon.
Unfortunately, unless a transitional period can be instated, surgeries are likely to have a stock of useable sutures for which no claim can be made for reimbursement.
With best wishes
Dr Julius Parker Chief Executive
