Building a robust support network can be invaluable to new practice manager colleagues. In particular the shared experience via PM local forums can help to navigate the complexities of managing a practice, enhance effectiveness, and contribute positively to your sucess.
You may wish to connect to:
Practice Manager Forums
Your practice manager forums can be area/town specific and provide a wealth of local knowledge.
Practice Manager Associations
You may have an association in your area. An Association typically consolidates various PM forums with the purpose of networking on a larger scale. These associations provide support for training and education, and can offer a unified voice.
Federations
You practice might also be member of a federation. Federations are a group of GP practices that come together to collaborate and share resources at scale. They aim to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare services provided to patients. Additionally, federations may be members of the NHS Confederation, which is a national membership body representing NHS organisations. The NHS Confederation provides support, advocacy, and resources to its members.
ICB
Make contact with your ICB to ensure you are invited to any webinars and that you receive their bulletins and updates. If they have an intranet, make sure you have access.
Institute of General Practice Management (IGPM)
The IGPM was created to support the development and career progression of the General Practice Management community and to provide a governing body through which managers can become accredited and fully recognised as a distinct profession.
Primary Care Networks
Your practice will be part of a Primary Care Networks (PCN) and your role may attend regular meetings with this network.
PCNs are groups of GP practices that collaborate with other local health and social care providers to deliver integrated and personalised care to their communities. Typically serving populations of 30,000 to 50,000 patients.
