As part of our long-term succession planning, we are investing in additional clinical capacity ahead of need. Our aim is to maintain the continuity, accessibility and quality of care that our patients value whilst creating a resilient and sustainable model for the future.

The role

The practice already has established clinical, operational and governance leadership in place, with protected time built into the working week to do that properly. That means this role is designed so you can spend your time looking after patients, not on carrying the practice’s operational or governance load.

How the clinical team works

Continuity of care and rapid access remain the core principles of the practice.

We want our new GP to focus on patients and have time to do that, which is why we’re increasing clinical capacity now. Leadership, governance and service development are already resourced and protected, so this role can stay focused on clinical care while remaining genuinely sustainable.

There will be a move to a greater degree of shared responsibility for acute demand and workflow. The successful candidate will develop continuity relationships with their own patient cohort whilst also contributing to acute care, same-day demand and clinical workflow across the wider practice population.

Working pattern and flexibility

We are flexible about how this role is structured and are happy to consider different combinations of days, sessions and working hours, including some non-traditional working patterns. Maintaining reliable in-person GP cover across the working week is important to us.

This appointment forms part of a longer-term plan to increase GP capacity as the practice evolves over the next few years. This gives us considerable flexibility to recruit the right person now and shape both this role and future recruitment around the strengths and working patterns of the clinician joining us.

Responsibilities

The role includes

• Face-to-face and telephone consultations
• Managing acute presentations and long-term conditions
• Prescribing and medication review
• Referrals and onward care
• Reviewing and actioning results and clinical correspondence
• Home visits where clinically appropriate
• Completing associated clinical administration
• Contributing to shared acute demand and clinical workflow across the practice

GPs have professional autonomy in managing their patients, while working collaboratively with the wider clinical team.
