Dr Karthiga Gengatharan is a GP with over 18 years’ experience and Director for Surrey and Sussex Local Medical Committees (SSLMCs), where she represents Kingston & Richmond, and is currently providing interim cover in the Croydon area. She leads on CQC compliance and Estates, delivering guidance and educational webinars to promote high-quality care and operational excellence for Practices and LMCs.
Karthiga is the founder and facilitator of SSLMCs’ Maternity and Parental Leave Workshops, which offer vital support to clinicians navigating the transition back to work after parental leave. These workshops provide group coaching, practical advice on leave entitlements, appraisal, revalidation, and wellbeing, and foster peer support networks to improve retention and resilience among GPs. This work led to invitations to present at national roundtable discussions with NHSE and the Minister of Health, as well as contributing to the BMA’s national parental leave guidance and national webinar series for General Practice.
Karthiga has held multiple leadership roles, including Clinical Lead at Croydon CCG in various clinical areas, Clinical Lead East Croydon Network, Chair of the Croydon Training Hub, GP panel member for the Independent Triage Panel, and Clinical Lead for the Croydon GP Collaborative.
