Our WhatsApp Channels
The LMC Line WhatsApp Channel: A private way to follow what matters

WhatsApp Channels are ideal for broadcasting updates to a large audience with limited interaction. You can think of a Channel as a bulletin board or a notice board; we commonly use our WhatsApp Channel to notify you about new resources on our website, upcoming webinars, new training availability or post answers topical questions. As it is one-way, our Channel does not clutter your chat but sits discretely under the Updates section of your WhatsApp App. Surrey and Sussex LMC Line | WhatsApp Channel
How the Channel works
- We will not overwhelm you with information and will only post during the working week and during working hours.
- You can freely follow, should you wish to do so.
- You will be completely anonymous, and you can leave at any time.
- You can also toggle notifications on or mute them.
- Once you join you will automatically see the last 30 days of posts, and what you see will then cumulate leaving you with a reference tool in your pocket.
- It’s a public Channel, so anyone can join.
Our WhatsApp Communities
WhatsApp Communities are better suited for managing and coordinating multiple groups with more interactive communication. We can broadcast updates to this group and when chat is turned on, members can communicate and respond.
We have communities’ groups for Kingston and Richmond, Croydon, Surrey, West Sussex and East Sussex with almost 900 members and have rules members must follow when using our WhatsApp communities.
Rules for our WhatsApp Communities
To ensure that the WhatsApp group functions well for everyone, the LMC needs all members using it to follow some straightforward, but professional, rules. This will ensure everyone feels confident when using the group. The cost of not following these rules is that members mute, don’t engage, or leave such groups, rendering them less inclusive and relevant. Please work together and make the group successful for everyone.
Who can be a member
Membership is open to all GPs, including partners, sessional and locum colleagues, GP retainers, GP trainees and practice/business managers. Contact the LMC Office for joining details, or speak to your Medical Dirctor.
Asking for LMC advice
For colleagues who want to contact the LMC directly, please email the LMC Office or Directors individually. The LMC website provides details of the Directors and supporting colleagues, including their geographical responsibilities
Keep geographical
Please join the group linked to your LMC area; the same information will be disseminated to all groups
Be kind, respectful and polite
Please do tell everyone what you think, but using language that is respectful and professional, towards both members of the group and those outside it. This group has a FTSUG (Freedom to Speak Up Guardian) Dr Emon Farrah Malik; please contact them if you have concerns about the nature of any posts
Who needs to know?
If your message is not relevant to the majority of members of the group, please message the person directly rather than the whole group.
We ask you to stick to the point and provide mutual support
This group is intended as a convenient way for the LMC to distribute information about the BMA and GPC England’s GP Action 2024 to colleagues quickly and efficiently and for colleagues to communicate easily with each other regarding this issue.
Our Community is a no rant zone
Whilst it may be cathartic, using the group for ranting, or merely venting frustrations is a surefire way of losing members and will not create the change you want
Leaks and breaking of confidentiality
Everyone needs to feel safe within the group; think of it as an electronic “Chatham House”. Leaking conversations also disengages colleagues and makes everyone wary of participating. Such behaviour undermines everyone
Advertising of services/businesses
Please do not advertise your business on this group
