This guidance updates all colleagues on the proposals within the 2026/27 GP contract and also to highlight areas where additional information is needed, or where implementation is uncertain.
At the time of writing, the draft Regulations and wording of the SFE (Statement of Financial Entitlement) and PCN DES specification are being reviewed and are not yet publicly available, although they will be by 01 April. There are three further caveats:
- The DDRB (Doctors and Dentist Pay Review Body) Recommendations for 2026/27 are not yet published, and, the Governments response to them is not yet known. This means the Government public sector pay assumption as submitted to the DDRB, of 2.5% has been used in all pay related contract uplift calculations. It is likely that DDRB recommendation will slightly higher than this noting that an Agenda for Change (AfC) uplift of 3.3% has been confirmed. If accepted, the combination of the DDRB uplift and AfC affecting some ARRS roles will mean a further uplift which may not however be available until the May or perhaps slightly later pay run. In 2025/26 the contract value was uplifted by a further £122 million as a result of the process.
- A further consequence of the DDRB delay is that the salaried GP pay range for 2026/27 is not yet known.
- Full details of the GP practice-based reimbursement scheme will not be in the SFE until at least May.
Headline figures
- In terms of the headline figures, noting the caveats above, Global Sum will rise by £5.35 (4.3%) to £128.69.
- The OOHs deduction will fall to 4.7% (from 4.75%) because the deduction is not being applied to the £82million transferred to Global Sum as a result of retiring the Advice and Guidance Enhanced Service. This will be £6.05, a rise of 19p from £5.86 in 2025/26.
- The QOF point value will rise by £2.46 (1.1%) to £227.85 as a result of the continuing slow increase in the Contractor Population Index, which represents the increase in the average size of GP practice lists.
The LMC will provide further updates on several of these issues in due course.
