We recognise that practices are already managing significant operational pressures, however this is an important opportunity to ensure that the practical experience of general practice is clearly understood and properly reflected. The FP69 process has raised a number of questions nationally, including questions around patient identification, deductions, workload, patient communication and the potential impact on practice and PCN income. At present, there is limited national data available to describe how this is being experienced by practices, and your input will help ensure that future discussions are informed by accurate, practice-based evidence.
Your response will help to build an evidence base which can be used to inform future discussions with NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care, and other relevant stakeholders.
We appreciate that the deadline is short, however we would be very grateful if each practice could arrange for one response to be submitted by Friday 26th June, ideally by the person best placed to comment on any operational, patient, workload or financial impact of the FP69 process.
Alongside this, a draft open letter to the Secretary of State for Health & Social Care and NHS England has been prepared on behalf of participating LMCs. The letter raises concerns about the operation of the FP69 process, the potential impact on vulnerable patients, the transparency of the methodology being used, and the possible consequences for general practice sustainability. SSLMCs has added its name as a co-signatory. The greater the number of LMCs and practices contributing to this work, the
stronger the collective voice of general practice will be in seeking clarity, appropriate safeguards and proportionate oversight of this process.
We appreciate any time practices are able to give to this. Responses from a broad range of practices will help ensure that any national representation is balanced, credible and grounded in the reality of practice experience.
