Russell Brown is a GP working in Sussex, with over 25 years experience as a partner and now a salaried doctor. Alongside his clinical role, he is a Medical Director of the Surrey and Sussex LMCs. He previously served as Chair of East Sussex LMC for nearly 15 years, and spent a decade on the BMA’s GP Committee, advocating for Sussex GPs at a national level.
Russell has a longstanding interest in interface issues and continues to support practices in challenging inappropriate workload transfer. He believes strongly in the value of general practice, and in helping surgeries to remain focused on safe, effective care for their patients — not picking up tasks that should be done elsewhere in the system.
His current focus is on continuing to be a strong advocate for local GPs, especially given the persistent challenges facing the NHS. He sees the role of the LMC as being a constant, calm and credible voice for practices during this difficult period.
Outside work, Russell is a keen birdwatcher and enthusiastic photographer, who shares a daily image as part of an ongoing personal project. He also enjoys long walks with his slightly overenthusiastic dog, Una.
