Syder & Young Ltd have created a new 3-day management and leadership development programme specifically for Lead Practice Nurses. The content of the programme is designed to equip delegates with the skills and knowledge required in leading a team. Each of the 3 workshops will cover two subject areas (see below) and all sessions will be led by Pauline Young, Director, Syder & Young Ltd.

Consider the role of the lead nurse within the management team
Consider the role of the lead nurse within the nursing team
Understand the different facets of being a leader and manager for your team
Choose workable styles and match it to the team and situation
Understand the different qualities expected in a leader and manager
Assess your development needs and identify how to bridge development gaps
MOTIVATING & DEVELOPING THE TEAM
Understand why employee engagement is key to being a successful manager.
Understand the activities successful managers do to drive employee engagement.
Establish whether an individual’s sense of pride is coming from the job, the organisation or a combination
Increase engagement by strengthening team members’ pride in both your organisation and their role
Identify what will motivate individuals within the team
Develop a strategy for improved motivation

Examine the importance and implications of mental toughness
Examine a model that measures mental toughness
Assess own mental toughness using a relevant model
Use the results of own mental toughness assessment to examine the implications for self and organisation
Consider a variety of strategies to help you develop resilience in yourself and your colleagues
Consider where pressure comes from
Develop strategies to help managers and their teams withstand a significant amount of pressure
Appreciate how emotion radically affects the results you get
Understand how your “Self-talk” affects your feelings
Consider ways to communicate to yourself and to others in assertive ways
Learn how to talk about what you want, not what you don’t want
Develop an action plan for new behaviours
